The student services department would like to inform you that a list of classes that current 6^th and 7^th grade students have registered for the 2014- 2015 school year will go home with students on Thursday, March 27.

**UPDATE** 8th Grade Writing SOL's Tuesday – No testing. Wednesday – We will run a modified bell schedule on Wednesday and Thursday found below. Morning - Those students who were originally scheduled to take the SOL on March 19th  in the morning.  Afternoon – The students who were originally scheduled to take the SOL test on Tuesday will test immediately after lunch. Thursday – We will run on the same modified bell schedule that we did on Wednesday. 6th Grade Dance - Monday March 17, 2014

Open House for our rising 6th grade Level 4 AAP students and their families

Glasgow MS will host an Open House for our rising 6^th grade Level 4 AAP students and their families on March 5^th from 6-7pm.  Please join Principal Gros, Director of Student Services Carmon Golden and Advanced Academic Resource Teacher Robin McDougal for an evening designed to continue welcoming you to our school.  We will review elective choices for next year and will speak briefly about our AA program as well as take a tour of the building.  Some AA families were unintentionally omitted from our big rising 6^th grade night and so we wanted to give them a “make-up” opportunity.  We thought it would be a great opportunity to showcase our AA program and invite any of our AA families who missed the first chance or would like to join us again. 

Information About Registration

Parents and Students:

Glasgow’s registration window opens on February 17^th. 

Counselors will meet individually with students through Health and PE classes to begin the process of selecting classes for next school year. 

We will begin with rising 7^th graders, transition to rising 9^th graders, and conclude with rising 8^th graders (rising 6^th grade students will register at their elementary school). We anticipate completing the registration process no later than March 25^th. You child will then bring home a list of the courses they have selected on March 27^th. We ask that you review these courses, make any changes you feel appropriate, sign, and return the form to your child’s counselor by April 3^rd.

Students, Do You Need CASL Hours (Community Service)

7th & 8th Grade FLE (Family Life Education) Information

Our PE department will begin our Family Life Education (FLE) units for our 7^th and 8^th grade students over the next few weeks. 

Seventh grade students will begin FLE on January 21 and Eigth grade students will begin FLE on February 17. 

All students receive FLE instruction unless parents choose to opt their children out of this FCPS-required unit. Parents who wish to opt their children out of this instruction should visit the following link (http://www.fcps.edu/is/hpe/fle.shtml) to access the opt-out forms for both seventh and eighth graders. 

Opt-out forms will be accessible on our website as well  (below). 

Forms must be returned to the PE teachers no later than the day before the FLE units begin.

If you do not want your child to participate in FLE lessons then you need to complete the opt-out form and return it to the student’s teacher.

Forms are available in Arabic, English, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

Assessment Information At Glasgow Middle School

Have you wondered how your child (or how you yourself) is graded here at Glasgow?  Would you like to know what makes up the grading process and how grades are figured out?

The IBMYP Assessment information (which covers grading procedures and more about the IB Assessment) can be found on the Glasgow Webpage under the "IB Middle Years Programme" tab and then under the link for "Assessment at Glasgow."  We have included an English and a Spanish version of the presentation.  

This is the presentation we provided at Parent Night this year, and it will always be located in this section of the site.  We will continuously be keeping the Website up-to-date.

Peru Trip Parent Info Night- January 14th @ 6:30pm in the GMS Library

Would you like your child to become involved in a "hands-on" global service project? 

Current 7th and 8th grade students are being given the opportunity to participate in an FCPS International Service Learning Program in Peru from June 24-July 3. During the 10-day study tour, students will volunteer with partner organization Peru's Challenge to serve impoverished communities in rural Peru. The focus of this year's trip is environmental sustainability and to that end, students will work in different service areas such as education and microfinance, community development and health to assist in making the community more self-sufficient. 

A parent information session will be held JANUARY 14, 2014 at 6:30-7:15pm in the Glasgow Middle School Library.

Glasgow's Mobile-Ready Oriented Web Officially Released!

Glasgow Community,

We'd like to announce the release of the NEW Glasgow Mobile-Ready Webpage!

When you log on to our homepage through the web or through the FCPS Mobile App, you will be brought to the NEW mobile-device oriented site.  It was built specifically for mobile devices.  You'll be able to contact teachers/staff members/administrators (clicking on their names will bring up their email).  Furthermore, you will be able to call the school and more.

We are currently putting the finishing touches on the attendance tab, and soon you will be able to send in absences!
