Course Registration for the 2017-2018 is Approaching! - *IMPORTANT* - Please Read!

2017-2018 Course Registration
The 2017-2018 course registration season is upon us.  On January 9, 2017, we will begin the registration process for rising 9th grade students, January 30th for rising 8th grade students, and February 27th for rising 7th grade students.   During the academic advising meeting, counselors use student’s grades, teacher recommendations, SOL scores, along with student and parent input to register the student for classes for next school year. After the registration window has closed, a list of the courses that your child is registered for, will go home for your review. Please refer to the letter in the course catalog explaining the process further. The course catalog will be available on the Glasgow and J.E.B. Stuart website in January.  If you have questions regarding the registration process, please contact your child’s school counselor.   


Stuart Rising 9th Grade Parent Orientation & Curriculum Night- January 5th
Parents are invited to our Rising 9th Grade Parent Orientation & Curriculum Night. The orientation at 6:30 is geared towards providing information for Rising 9th Grade students and parents. At 7:15, students and parents will have the opportunity to talk with teachers, department chairs, school counselors and administrators about course offerings, course requirements, and scheduling choices. The Stuart HS counselors will be visiting Glasgow 8th grade students on Wednesday, January 4th and Thursday, January 5th to review course options and graduation requirements.

Annandale 8th grade Student and Parent Night
All parents and current 8th grade students are invited to an orientation at Annandale High School on Thursday, January 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.  From 7:45 – 8:30, Course Offering Open House (light refreshments will be provided by the PTSA). Each department will feature a display of its courses. Teachers from every department will be available to answer your specific questions.  

Falls Church Rising Freshman Information Night
Wednesday, January 18 in the auditorium from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.  Curriculum & Academy Information will be held in the cafeteria from 7:30-8:30.

New Website Coming!

Glasgow Community,

We have strived to keep you up to date with a website that is current and up to date with necessary information.

Fairfax County Public Schools is moving to a new format and layout this upcoming year and schools will be updated in groups.  Our website should provide a much easier mobile version as well.  Our school is projected to be updated in November/December 2016.  If there are any changes we will let you know.

We will keep the information you see on our site, it will just be in a slightly different layout.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Family Intentions - Do You Plan on Coming to Glasgow? Are you Moving?

In an attempt to obtain an accurate number of students who will attend Glasgow next school year, we are asking parents to send in the attached form if your family will move out of the Glasgow boundary.  Please review the attached intentions form.  If you are sure that you will move out of our boundary this summer, please fill out the form, sign, and return to Glasgow Middle School’s Student Services office.  If you do not intend to move this summer, please do not return the form to Glasgow.

6th Grade Parent Night - April 21, 6:00-7:30pm in the Cafeteria


This night will focus on how parents can support their students transition from elementary to middle school. If you do choose to bring your child(ren) with you to this event, it is expected that they will remain with parents in the cafeteria for the duration of the event. There will not be a separate activity for children this night.

Family Life Education (FLE) starts Soon!

Eigth grade students will begin Family Life Education (FLE) on Wednesday April 13, 2016 and lessons will conclude on Thursday, April 21, 2016.  Sixth grade students will begin Family Life Education (FLE) on Monday, April 25, 2016 and lessons will conclude on Friday, April 29, 2016. 7th grade students will begin Family Life Education (FLE) on Monday, May 2, 2016, and lessons will conclude on Friday May 6, 2016.  Parents who do not their children participate in Human Growth and Development instruction may choose to opt their children out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more of these lessons, please fill out the opt-out form for your child’s grade level and return it to your child’s teacher. If you have already indicated your desire to opt your child out of the HGD lessons by using the form sent home earlier in the school year, you do not need to return this form. Glasgow Spelling Bee - THIS THURSDAY - February 18th, 2016!

The Glasgow Spelling Bee is Thursday, February 18 at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria.  Spellers should get to Glasgow at 5:30 to sign in and for a final prep session. We will have pizza and drinks for spellers – first come, first serve!


The practice sessions are not mandatory. We hope to see many students as possible on Thursday.

Honor Roll Celebration - 6th, 7th, 8th Grade

We will be celebrating your child’s success for making the all A’s and A/B Honor Roll by having an after school celebration! There will be music, open gym, and a photo area to take pictures! Parents are invited to attend if they would like to do so.  All students that made the Honor Roll will be receiving an invitation during 7th period next Friday, November 13th. The 6th grade celebration will be held on November 18th from 2:25 until 3:25 and the 7th & 8th grade celebration will be held on November 19th from 2:25 until 3:25. When the party ends, students can either attend Club Glasgow and take the late bus home or parents are free to pick them up at the front of the school.

Syrian Refugee Service

Faculty and Parents Help Needed for the Syria Refugee Crisis

The crisis in Syria has reached its fourth year and the humanitarian needs are greater than ever.  Most of the population has been affected by the violence as a result of the civil war, and it has taken a tremendous toll on families who have been forced to move to other countries. 
Our Glasgow community will be helping out by collecting the following travel size items:
Faculty and parents can help by reminding students to bring in the following items until October 20, 2015.
·        Baby wipes
·        Baby powder
·        Soap
·        Deodorant
·        Individual packs of Kleenex
·        Snack bars
·        Body spray
·        Socks
·        Sanitary napkins
·        Juice boxes
·        Small pieces of individually wrapped candy (no chocolate)
·        Packs of crayons
·        Mechanical pencils
·        Gloves
·        Coloring books
·        Deck of cards
·        Stickers
·        Composition Notebooks
·        Inexpensive drawstring backpacks

Faculty and parents can also help by bringing in the following items:

  • ·        Antiseptic cream or spray
